Our Story

Hi! We’re Emma and Chris, the husband-and-wife team behind Hammer & Quill.

Back in 2023, we packed up our very first market stall, crossed our fingers and hoped people would love what we’d made.

Three years later, we’re still driven by the same curiosity. We’ve brought hundreds of ideas to life, started running creative workshops, are building our dream workshop and are putting the finishing touches to our wedding collection.

And honestly... it still blows us away that something which starts as an idea in our workshop becomes part of someone’s story. Whether it’s displayed in a home, given as a thoughtful gift or shared during a celebration, we don’t think we’ll ever stop finding that amazing.

 

More Than Making Things

Hammer & Quill has grown into something much bigger than making things.

It’s about noticing the beauty in everyday moments, designing pieces that create connection and creating thoughtful pieces that become part of people’s stories.

Curiosity is at the heart of everything we do. We’re always asking, “What if?” Whether we’re experimenting with a new material, sketching ideas in a notebook or refining the smallest detail, we love discovering new ways to create.

Nature inspires almost everything we design. The grain of a piece of wood, the texture of slate, the shape of a leaf and the quiet elegance of a flower often become the starting point for a new collection. Rather than hiding the character of these materials, we celebrate it, allowing their natural beauty to shine through.

 

Thoughtfully Designed

Every piece begins with an idea and is designed and made in our Lancashire workshop using carefully selected natural materials, including responsibly sourced wood, slate, cork and paper.

We combine precision laser cutting and engraving with traditional hand-finishing techniques, creating beautifully detailed pieces while celebrating the natural character of every material we work with.

Wherever possible, we choose responsibly sourced or recycled materials, and our packaging is designed to be as kind to the environment as the pieces inside.

From our own collections to bespoke commissions, every piece is thoughtfully designed to be enjoyed, gifted and become part of someone’s story.
